In light of recent worries President Biden has invited the top developers of generative AI to Washington today to talk about safeguards for the potent technology in an effort to increase the government's knowledge of & role in artificial intelligence.
Main Point: Biden is urging companies developing generative AI, primarily Microsoft and Google (the top dogs right now), to make sure their technologies are secure before releasing them to the public.
Why it's important: Just recently the "Godfather of AI," Geoffrey Hinton said.. “I don’t think they should scale this up more until they have understood whether they can control it.” If this isn't a slap to slowdown the damn AI, I don't what is. Other Tech heads, have expressed the same concerns.
With hardly any laws governing artificial intelligence in the US. Europe is leading the chare with a comprehensive AI act is being pushed forward.
In the background, Biden used ChatGPT in between a nap (kidding) and personally found it to be fascinating
So who will be at the meeting? The CEOs of the four leading AI companies — Sam Altman of OpenAI, Dario Amodei of Anthropic, Satya Nadella of Microsoft, and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet — to be facilitated by the Vice President.
Wake-Up Call: These large corporations have a variety of standards practiced in what they call "Responsible AI." However, the fact of that matter is that this technology can & will be challenging to control. Developers have already stated they aren't sure why it answers in one way or another due to its complexity. Regulations are necessary, and quick.
